In a world where everyone is trying to fit in, be seen, and be heard, it becomes very important to always put your best foot forward at every given time and space. It starts with taking care of yourself, prioritizing your basic needs and outlook, to representing what you stand for at every level. That is why self-care is of utmost importance if we intend to achieve the above assertion. After all, you are often addressed by your physical appearance; the first point of contact before you have a chance to showcase what you’ve got. You have to inculcate and cultivate various self-care skills in order to look presentable and addressed accordingly; whether as a CEO, personal assistant, executive, or adjunct staff. You need to prioritize self-care!
What Are Self-Care Skills?
Self-care simply means taking absolute control of your outlook. In other words, it is an act of taking care or paying attention to yourself; from what you eat, to dressing and grooming, and personal hygiene. While self-care skills refer to the daily activities required to live independently; they are also known as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). It will surprise you to know that the majority of individuals often overlook these basic needs, such as wearing clean clothes, personal hygiene, and dressing well. They are often unaware of the benefits of self-care not only to themselves but also to those around them.
Benefits of Self-Care
When we talk about self-care, we are often quick to relegate the idea to purchasing expensive clothes and jewelries, splashing wads of cash on expensive accessories. Nothing is wrong with such ideology, if you can afford luxury, however, that isn’t all there is to self-care. On the contrary, that’s quite far from what self-care is all about. You don’t have to look expensive to look and smell good. It starts from having good personal hygiene, how you care about your body; from bathing properly, and regular handwashing, to as simple as brushing your teeth twice daily (morning and night). In addition, you get to wear clean clothes, knowing that dirty clothes contain gems, increase the risk for skin infections and offensive odor. Moreover, good personal hygiene often boosts self-confidence, self-esteem, and protects you from communicable diseases. These are some of the benefits of self-care.
So, when next you plan to leave the house, make sure you have prioritized your basic self-care needs, and not just how you plan to steal the show with your choice of clothing. Remember, your outlook is part of your résumé!
