Nigeria’s foremost Health Maintenance Organisation Hygeia, held its 2017 Healthcare Stakeholders Conference on the 7th of September at Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos.
The Conference themed “Improving Healthcare Quality in Nigeria: Be a Part of the Solution” was focused on creating awareness and starting conversations around healthcare issues with key Stakeholders from the industry present.
Some of the topics discussed included delivering quality healthcare in Nigeria with focus on the patient, providing healthcare insurance for lower income groups, financing options for healthcare providers in Nigeria and several other topics aimed at contributing to the awareness and capacity of dealing with these issues.
Obinnia Abajue the CEO Hygeia HMO during his welcome address stated that Healthcare is not cheap anywhere in the world because someone has to pay for it. The Conference however was focused on discussing collaborations aimed at making healthcare affordable for the benefit of the patients.
Speaking at the conference, the Lagos State Commissioner for health Dr. Olajide Idris challenged all healthcare professionals to look inward as it was not a job for the government alone. He called for a behavioural change at the policy level, Provider level and Consumer level.
Stakeholders and partners from across the county and beyond were present at the conference, lending their voices towards providing solutions to healthcare issues in Nigeria. Some of them included Swiss Re, IFC, PharmAccess, PWC, Shell, Interswitch, Ikeja Electric, TremenDoc to mention a few.
The Healthcare Stakeholders Conference is an annual conference aimed at increasing the level of awareness and discussing solutions to ameliorate Healthcare solutions in Nigeria with key stakeholders present.
